First stop the X Server

This should be done by running sudo gdm stop but ubuntu keeps restarting them

chmod -x /etc/rc3.d/gdm

then drop into init level 3

you must pre-install

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

then sudo sh NVIDIA**.run
